What is REDI?
REDI is short for the Rural Energy Development Initiative, a statewide program administered by the Southwest Initiative Foundation (SWIF) and sponsored by the State of Minnesota, the Center for Rural Policy and Development, and the McKnight Foundation. The goal of REDI is to maximize rural economic development and stabilize rural economies by building renewable energy capacity, expertise and leadership throughout Minnesota.
REDI encompasses three broad categories of rural wind energy development support including:
Outreach and public education: REDI helps rural Minnesota better understand energy development opportunities, technologies and business models.
Project development assistance: REDI helps private, public and nonprofit stakeholders gain the capacity and practical know-how to successfully develop community wind energy projects.
Early stage project development financing: REDI provides loan financing for costs related to early-stage project development and feasibility analysis for wind energy electric generation projects that intend to sell the electricity to an electric utility.
